Car Service in Tarragindi

Before you book, there is one decision to make: logbook service or general service. The right answer depends on how old your car is. Either way, full service from $330 at 2 Baldock St, Moorooka — a short run from Tarragindi.

Where we are and what you are choosing between

Tarragindi runs across a set of ridges between Wellers Hill, Ekibin and the Holland Park side, and our workshop is a short run down from any of them at 2 Baldock St, Moorooka. Before you book, there is one decision to make. Logbook service or general service, and the right answer depends almost entirely on how old your car is.

Logbook servicing

A logbook service follows the schedule the manufacturer wrote for your exact model at your exact kilometre reading, and the book gets stamped when it is done.

The schedule is not the same at every interval. One service might be oil, filter and an inspection. The next might add spark plugs, a cabin filter, brake fluid and a transmission check. That is why two logbook services on the same car twelve months apart can be very different jobs at very different prices.

If your car is still inside its new car warranty, this is the one you want. Under Australian consumer law a qualified independent workshop can carry out logbook servicing without affecting that warranty, provided the schedule is followed and the correct parts are used. We stamp the book the same way a dealership does — full detail on our servicing page.

General servicing

Once the new car warranty has run out, the logbook stops being a legal consideration and becomes a useful reference instead.

A general service covers the same fundamentals. A full safety check on the hoist, fresh oil and a new filter in the correct grade, a fuel system clean, all fluids checked and topped up, and a written report. It starts at $330. What it does not do is chase every scheduled item on a book that was written for a car with a warranty to protect.

For an older car that is usually the sensible choice. You spend the money on the condition of the car in front of you rather than on a checklist written before the car left the factory.

Tarragindi hills and what to ask us to look at

The streets running down off the ridge here are steep, and steep streets are hard on two specific things.

Front brakes wear faster, because descending means braking rather than coasting. A Tarragindi car can need pads noticeably sooner than the same model doing the same kilometres on flat ground, and pad thickness is one of the numbers that goes on your report.

Handbrakes get used properly here, several times a day, which is better for them than never being used at all but does stretch the cable over the years. If yours needs more travel than it used to, mention it when you book.

Both of those are also assessed in a safety certificate inspection at our approved inspection station, so if you are heading toward selling the car it is worth dealing with them at service time.

What you get either way

The written report is the same for both. Condition rather than tasks. If your pads are at 4mm, the report says 4mm. If a hose is going soft, it goes on as something to watch rather than something to replace today. You can take it anywhere for a second opinion.

Most cars take a few hours. Oil and filter alone starts at $149. All makes and models, including European, diesel, 4WD, fleet, commercial, hybrid and electric.

What we will not do

We will not put items on a quote because the book lists them and you have not asked whether they apply. If your car is eight years old and the schedule wants a fluid changed that we can see is in good condition, we will tell you that and let you decide.

We also will not start work you have not approved. If the inspection turns something up, you get a call with the problem, the fix and the price, and the job waits until you have said yes. If the list is longer than your budget this month, we will tell you which items genuinely cannot wait and which ones can hold until next time.

Common questions

FAQ — Car Service in Tarragindi

What is the difference between a logbook service and a general service?

A logbook service follows the manufacturer's schedule for your model and gets the book stamped. A general service covers the same fundamentals without being tied to that schedule.

Which one do I need?

If the car is under new car warranty, logbook. If the warranty has expired, a general service is usually the better value.

Will servicing here void my new car warranty?

No. Australian law allows any qualified workshop to do logbook servicing, provided the schedule is followed and correct parts are used.

Do you stamp the logbook?

Yes.

Why do logbook service prices jump around?

Because the schedule adds items at particular intervals. Plugs, filters and fluids come due at different points, so one service can be far bigger than the last.

Do the Tarragindi hills really wear brakes faster?

Descending steep streets means braking rather than coasting, so front pads do wear sooner than they would on flat ground.

What does a general service cost?

From $330, or from $149 for oil and filter only. Exact figure at booking.

Do you have a Tarragindi workshop?

No. Our only workshop is 2 Baldock St, Moorooka.
