Mechanic and Car Repairs,
Brisbane Inner City
Inner city cars do very few kilometres and a great deal of work. A New Farm car that covers 6,000km a year has spent most of that at walking pace, idling at lights and doing trips too short to warm the engine. We are at 2 Baldock St, Moorooka, a short run down Ipswich Road.
What low kilometres and heavy traffic do
Your odometer is
lying to you.
Brakes
Every set of lights is a brake application. An inner city car makes far more stops per kilometre than anything else on the road. Coming in for a brake check at 20,000km is normal here.
Batteries
Starting a car is the single biggest draw a battery takes, and a five minute trip from Paddington to Milton does not put it back. Do that repeatedly and the battery lives in a permanently undercharged state.
Air conditioning
Aircon works hardest when the car is barely moving. Inner city summer driving is close to the worst case for a system, and it will show up any refrigerant loss or weak fan straight away.
Engine and oil
Oil that never reaches full operating temperature does not burn off moisture. A low kilometre inner city car should be serviced on the twelve month interval regardless of the odometer.
Suburbs we cover
Inner city and inner north west
Near the Moorooka rail corridor, so leaving the car and continuing into the city by train is what a lot of customers do.
Inner city parking damage
Panel and mechanical
in one building.
Inner city parking produces a particular kind of damage. Kerbed wheels, scraped bumpers, mirrors taken off in a laneway, car park dents from the door next to you. We do panel and paint in the same building as the mechanical side, so it can be one visit instead of two.
We work with all major Australian insurers, and for smaller damage it is often worth getting a figure before you claim, because the repair can cost less than the excess.

Common questions
FAQ — Brisbane Inner City
How do I get to you from West End or Highgate Hill?
Down Ipswich Road. It is a short run, and there is parking on site when you arrive.
What about from New Farm, Paddington or Toowong?
Coronation Drive across and down, or through the city and onto Ipswich Road. Most people drop the car early and pick it up after work.
My car barely does any kilometres. Do I still need a service?
Yes, and probably more than you think. Oil ages by time, brakes wear by stops rather than distance, and short trips are harder on an engine than open running. Go by the twelve month interval.
Why does my battery keep dying?
Short trips. The alternator never gets long enough to replace what starting the car used. We can test it properly and tell you whether it is the battery, the alternator or your driving pattern.
My aircon blows warm in traffic but fine on the motorway. Why?
Usually low refrigerant or a condenser fan that is not doing its job, because airflow is what carries you when the car is not moving. Worth checking before summer.
Can you fix a kerbed wheel or a scraped bumper?
Yes. Panel and paint happen in the same building as the servicing, so it can be one visit.
Should I claim on insurance for a small scrape?
Get a figure first. Small repairs often cost less than the excess, and we will tell you which side of that line you are on.
Do you do safety certificates?
Yes, done on site, with repairs to anything that fails handled here. Call to confirm current AIS details.
Can I leave the car overnight?
Yes. There is an after-hours key drop, and we are open Saturday until 3pm if that suits better.
