Air conditioning and exhaust

Air Conditioning and Exhaust Services in Brisbane

Aircon repairs, regassing, exhaust work and emissions faults all happen at 2 Baldock St, Moorooka. A car air conditioning system is sealed, so if yours has run out of gas it has leaked somewhere, and we find the leak before we put gas back in. Call 0402 723 464 or book online.

Before you book an aircon job

The one thing worth knowing

Your car's air conditioning is a closed loop. Refrigerant is not consumed the way fuel or oil is, so a system that is empty has lost its charge to a leak. That leak might be a perished O-ring, a corroded condenser at the front of the car, or a hose that has chafed through.

Regassing a leaking system without fixing the leak vents refrigerant into the atmosphere and leaves you warm again within weeks or months. It is the reason our regas is not the cheapest one you will find advertised in Brisbane. We leak test first, tell you what we found, and let you decide what to do about it.

Timing

Get the aircon looked at in spring

Every Brisbane workshop sees the same thing. The first genuinely hot week arrives, everybody discovers their aircon at the same moment, and the bookings stack up for a month. Spring is the sensible time. Vent temperatures are easy to measure on a mild day, a leak found in September is a calm repair rather than an urgent one, and you are not waiting behind half the southside in December.

Exhaust safety

Exhaust noise is a safety issue

A blowing exhaust is usually first noticed as a ticking or roaring that rises with the revs. What is actually happening is that combustion gas is escaping before the tailpipe, and depending on where the leak sits, some of that can find its way into the cabin.

Carbon monoxide has no colour and no smell. If you can smell exhaust inside the car, other gases are getting in and carbon monoxide may be coming with them. Drive with the windows down and book it in.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions

My aircon is not cold. Do I just need a regas?

Possibly, but only after a leak test. The system is sealed, so if it is low on gas it has leaked, and putting more in without finding the leak buys you a few weeks at best.

How often should a car aircon be regassed?

There is no set interval. A healthy system holds its charge for years, so needing gas regularly is a sign of a leak rather than a maintenance item.

Why does my aircon smell musty?

Mould and bacteria growing on the evaporator and in the cabin filter. Brisbane humidity makes it far more common here than in the drier states.

Will a loud exhaust fail a roadworthy?

Yes. Excessive noise and any gas leak before the tailpipe are both grounds to fail a Queensland safety certificate.

Is exhaust smell in the cabin dangerous?

Treat it as dangerous. Carbon monoxide is odourless, so if you can smell exhaust the leak is already reaching you.

Can you work on European cars?

Yes, along with diesel, 4WD, fleet, commercial, hybrid and electric vehicles.

When is the best time of year to book aircon work?

Spring. Everyone books in the first hot week of summer and the queue gets long fast.

Do you handle refrigerant legally?

Handling refrigerant is licensed work in Australia and we are set up for it. [CONFIRM: refrigerant handling licence details]
