Car Repairs in Moorooka

Most people ring us describing a noise rather than a part, and that is fine. Tell us what it does, when it does it and how long it has been doing it, and we will usually have a fair idea before the car arrives. Diagnostic time is quoted before it starts, and no repair happens until you have the price and have said yes.

Car Repairs in Moorooka

What the car is telling you

Start with the symptom

A squeal that stops when you brake, or a grind that does not

Brake wear indicators do the first one deliberately. The grinding one is pad backing plate on rotor and it needs looking at this week, not next month.

Brake repairs

Temperature gauge climbing in traffic but fine on the motorway

That is airflow, which points at a fan, a thermostat, a blocked radiator or a coolant level that has been dropping quietly for months.

Cooling system repairs

A shudder through the seat between gears

Automatic transmissions rarely fail without warning. They shudder, they hunt, they hold gears too long, and then they fail expensively.

Transmission repairs

Engine light on, car driving normally

Common, and not usually an emergency. The code is the beginning of the answer rather than the answer itself.

Engine diagnostics

A clunk over the speed humps

Suspension bushes, links and mounts wear out gradually and change how the car steers before they get noisy.

Suspension repairs

Cranks longer than it used to, especially first thing

Battery, starter, charging or fuel delivery. In a Brisbane summer, batteries go from fine to dead in about a fortnight.

Auto electrical

Proper diagnosis

How we actually find the fault

Plugging in a scan tool is the first five minutes, not the job. A code tells you which circuit or system reported something out of range. It does not tell you whether the sensor is faulty, the wiring has chafed, or the sensor is reporting a real problem accurately.

So we read the codes, then we look at live data while the engine runs, then we test the components and the wiring to them. On an intermittent fault we will ask to keep the car longer or ask you to drive it and tell us exactly when it happens. Guessing at parts is expensive for you and embarrassing for us.

When we have found it, you get a phone call with what is wrong, what it takes to fix, what the parts cost and how long it will be off the road.

What we repair

Scope of repairs

Engines and cooling systems, brakes, suspension and steering, clutches, gearboxes and differentials, exhausts, auto electrical, starting and charging, aircon, fuel systems and the driveline. Petrol, diesel, hybrid and electric. Six technicians and the equipment behind them.

If something is genuinely outside what we do, we will say so and point you at who does it rather than having a crack and charging you for the education.

Honest timelines

When we say it can wait

Not everything found on a car needs doing that day, and a workshop that tells you otherwise is selling rather than advising.

Front pads at 4mm have months in them for most drivers. A slight weep from a rocker cover gasket that never leaves a spot on the driveway can be watched. A CV boot that has split today needs doing before the grease is gone and the joint is destroyed. A brake hose that is perished gets done now, because that one is not about money.

We put all of it in writing with a rough timeframe against each item, so you can plan the spend rather than absorb it all at once.

Parts and warranty

Parts and warranty

Every part we fit carries the supplier or manufacturer warranty that comes with it. Where there is a meaningful choice between a genuine part and a good aftermarket one, you get both prices and the reason we lean one way or the other. On safety-critical components we will tell you straight when the cheap option is not worth having.

Getting the car in

Booking and location

Call 0402 723 464 or book online. We are at 2 Baldock St, Moorooka, open Monday to Friday 8am to 5pm and Saturday 8am to 3pm. There is an after-hours key drop, and it gets used most by people who cannot take a morning off work.

If the car is not safe to drive, do not drive it. Ring us first and we will tell you honestly whether it needs a tow. [CONFIRM: whether towing is arranged in-house or via a preferred operator]

Common questions

Frequently asked questions

How much will the repair cost?

It depends on what is wrong, which is why we diagnose first and quote second. You get the price before any repair work starts.

Do you charge for diagnosis?

Diagnostic time is quoted up front. If we go ahead with the repair, we will tell you at that point how the diagnostic time is handled.

My engine light is on. Can I keep driving?

If the light is steady and the car drives and sounds normal, usually yes, but get it read soon. If the light is flashing, or the car is down on power or overheating, stop driving it.

Can you work on my car if it is not a common make?

We work on all makes and models, including European, diesel, 4WD, fleet, commercial, hybrid and electric. Tell us the model when you ring and we will confirm.

How long will it take?

The repair itself is often quick. Parts availability is the variable, particularly on European models, and we will give you a real answer rather than a hopeful one.

Will you use my own parts if I supply them?

[CONFIRM: workshop policy on customer-supplied parts]

What if you find something else while you are in there?

The car stops and we ring you. No approval, no work, even if it means the car stays overnight.

Do you fix cars that another workshop has already had a go at?

Frequently. Tell us what was done and what was replaced, because it saves us testing things twice.

Is it worth repairing an older car?

Sometimes it is not, and we will say so. If a repair costs more than the car is worth and there are two more like it coming, you deserve to hear that before you spend.

Can you do the repair and the panel work?

Yes. Mechanical and smash repair happen in the same building here, which matters after a collision.
