Car Battery Replacement in Brisbane
We supply and fit car batteries at our Moorooka workshop, usually the same day you ring. The battery goes in to the correct specification for your car, the charging system gets checked before you leave, and where the car needs the new battery registered to its computer, that gets done too. Call 0402 723 464.
Test before you replace
Test before you buy
Roughly one in a handful of the cars that arrive here certain they need a battery do not need one. The battery is flat because something flattened it, and fitting a new one just resets the clock on the same problem.
So the battery gets tested first, along with the charging output and the current the car draws when parked. If the battery has genuinely failed, we say so and fit one. If the alternator has quit or something is staying awake overnight, you find that out before you spend the money rather than a fortnight after.
About battery testingCorrect specification
Getting the specification right
Cold cranking amps
The number stamped on the label is what the engine needs to turn over. Going under the manufacturer's figure to save money gives you a battery that starts the car in September and struggles by January.
Physical size and terminal layout
Case dimensions, post positions and post size all have to match, along with the hold-down. A battery that is not clamped down properly moves, and vibration kills batteries faster than almost anything else.
Battery type
Cars with stop-start need AGM or enhanced flooded batteries because they are built to take the repeated shallow cycling. Fitting a standard flooded battery to a stop-start car is a false economy.
Vent routing
Where the battery sits inside the cabin or the boot, the vent tube has to be connected and routed properly.
Battery coding
Battery registration and coding
On a lot of European cars and an increasing number of others, the new battery has to be registered to the vehicle with a scan tool. The charging strategy is managed by a computer that tracks the age and condition of the battery it thinks is fitted. Skip that step and the car carries on charging as though the battery were four years old and tired.
We have the tooling to register and code batteries where the vehicle needs it.
What the fitting includes
What comes with the fitting
- A memory saver connected before the old battery comes out
- Terminals and clamps cleaned or replaced
- Hold-down refitted properly
- Charging system checked afterwards
- Old battery taken away for recycling
We also look at why the old one died. A battery that has failed at two years old had help, whether that was a charging fault, a drain or a loose hold-down.
Common questions
Frequently asked questions
How long does a battery replacement take?
Most are done in well under half an hour. Batteries buried under an airbox, a wheel arch or a boot floor take longer, and cars needing registration to the computer add a few minutes.
Can you do it today?
Usually yes. Ring with your rego and we will confirm we have the right battery on the shelf.
Do I need an AGM battery?
If your car has stop-start, almost certainly. If it does not, a quality flooded battery is normally the right choice unless the manufacturer specifies otherwise.
What happens if the wrong battery is fitted?
Short battery life is the usual result, along with stop-start faults and charging warnings on cars that manage the battery through a computer.
Will I lose my radio code and settings?
Not if we fit it. A memory saver keeps the car powered while the battery is out.
Do you register the battery to the car?
Yes, where the vehicle requires it. Plenty of European models will not treat a new battery correctly without it.
What warranty comes with a new battery?
Whatever the supplier or manufacturer provides for that battery. You get the terms in writing when you buy it.
Will you take my old battery?
Yes, it goes for recycling.
Why did my last battery only last two years?
Heat, a charging fault, repeated deep discharges or a parasitic drain. We check the charging side and the parked draw so it does not happen again.
Can you replace a hybrid or EV 12 volt battery?
Yes. Those cars still run a 12 volt battery and it still needs replacing on schedule.
