Car Service in Salisbury

Most Salisbury work vehicles hit their service interval on kilometres before the calendar catches up. Full service from $330, with a written report and no work done without your approval.

Answer first

Most manufacturers specify twelve months or somewhere between 10,000km and 15,000km, whichever comes first. For a lot of Salisbury vehicles the kilometres arrive first and they arrive early. Our workshop is at 2 Baldock St in Moorooka, straight up Beaudesert Road, and a full service starts at $330.

Which half of the interval reaches you first

The interval is two numbers with an “or” between them, and which one triggers depends entirely on how the vehicle is used.

A car doing school runs and weekend shopping might take eighteen months to reach 10,000km, which means the calendar is what brings it in. Oil degrades over time even sitting still, so twelve months is the trigger regardless of the odometer.

A vehicle working out of the industrial streets around Salisbury, Salisbury East and Coopers Plains can pass 15,000km before winter. For that vehicle the calendar is irrelevant and the odometer is the only number that matters.

Check your logbook rather than assuming, because the interval genuinely varies by make and by engine. Some modern diesels run longer intervals on paper and shorter ones in practice depending on the duty cycle.

Why load changes the maths

Salisbury sits in a pocket of light industrial streets near Archerfield Airport, and a large share of the vehicles we see from here are utes, vans and small trade fleets rather than family cars.

A loaded vehicle works its engine harder for every kilometre it covers. Add towing, add idling on a job site, add short cold starts between jobs, and the oil is doing more work per kilometre than the manufacturer's test cycle assumed. The same applies to brakes, suspension and tyres, all of which carry more weight than the unladen version of the same vehicle.

That is not a reason to service twice as often. It is a reason to service at the shorter end of the specified range rather than stretching to the longer end because the car still feels fine.

Downtime is the real cost

For a vehicle that earns money, the invoice is rarely the expensive part. Being off the road is.

That is why we quote before we start, call you before doing anything extra, and tell you honestly whether same-day is realistic when you book. It is also why fleet and commercial work sits alongside everything else here rather than being a sideline. If two vehicles need doing, tell us and we will stagger them so you are never without both.

There is an after-hours key drop for anyone whose day starts before ours, and we are open Saturday 8am to 3pm.

What is in the service

A full safety check on the hoist covering brakes, tyres, steering, suspension, lights, belts, hoses and leaks. Fresh engine oil and a new filter in the correct grade for the engine. A fuel system clean. Coolant, brake fluid, power steering and washer fluid checked and topped up. Then a written report in plain English covering what needs doing now and what can wait.

From $330 for the full job, from $149 for oil and filter only. The variation is oil capacity, oil grade and filter type, which is why a diesel ute and a small hatch are quoted differently.

The report, and why a trade vehicle needs one more than a car does

A written report matters most on a vehicle somebody depends on. If your front pads are at 4mm, you want that written down with a rough idea of how long it gives you, so you can book the work into a quiet week rather than have it stop you on a busy one.

Our report lists condition rather than tasks completed. Belts, hoses, brakes, tyres, suspension and leaks all get recorded as they actually are. What needs doing now, what needs doing soon and what is simply worth watching.

You can take that report to any other workshop for a second opinion. We would rather you could, because a report nobody can check is not worth much.

Common questions

FAQ — Car Service in Salisbury

How often should I service my car?

Usually twelve months or between 10,000km and 15,000km, whichever comes first. Check your logbook, because it varies by make.

My ute does high kilometres. Should I service more often?

Service at the shorter end of the range rather than the longer one. Load, towing and idling all work the oil harder per kilometre.

Does towing change the interval?

It changes how hard the engine and transmission work, so yes in practice. Many manufacturers list a severe duty schedule for exactly this.

Do you service vans and light commercials?

Yes. Fleet and commercial vehicles are handled alongside everything else, along with European, diesel, 4WD, hybrid and electric.

Can you do it without taking my vehicle off the road for a full day?

Tell us when you book and we will be straight about what is realistic. There is an after-hours key drop so the vehicle can be in before we open.

What does it cost?

From $330 for a full service, from $149 for oil and filter. Exact figure at booking.

Do you have a Salisbury workshop?

No. Our only address is 2 Baldock St, Moorooka, a short run up Beaudesert Road.

Will you contact me before doing extra work?

Always. You get the problem, the fix and the price, and nothing starts without your approval.
