Car Service in Mount Gravatt
Most services take a few hours. The oil change is the part that takes the least time and gets the most attention, which is backwards, because the valuable part of the visit is the hour someone spends going over the car and writing down what they found. Full service from $330 at 2 Baldock St, Moorooka, an easy run across from Mount Gravatt.
What is on the report
Not a tick list. Condition, with numbers where numbers exist.
Front and rear brake pad thickness in millimetres, and rotor condition. Tread depth on each tyre and the wear pattern on each. The state of belts and hoses. Any leaks, where they are coming from and how bad they are. Steering and suspension play. Battery condition. Fluid levels and the state of the fluid, not just whether it is at the mark.
Each item lands in one of three places. Needs doing now, needs doing soon with a rough idea of how long, or worth watching. That last category is the one most workshops leave off, and it is the one that lets you plan.
Why the numbers matter more than the verdict
"Brakes okay" tells you nothing. Front pads at 4mm tells you that you have got somewhere between six and twelve months depending on how you drive, and that you should budget for it rather than be surprised by it.
It also lets you check us. Take the report to another workshop, ask them to measure the same pads, and see whether the numbers match. We would rather you could do that than not. A workshop that reports in numbers is making itself accountable at the next service, which is exactly the point.
If your car came back last time with a note about a hose starting to go soft, and this time it says the same hose is worse, that is a story you can follow. A stamp and a wave is not.
Two Mount Gravatt driving patterns, two different reports
Mount Gravatt sits between Logan Road, Kessels Road and the Pacific Motorway, with Garden City at Upper Mount Gravatt on one side and the Griffith University Nathan campus on the other. Cars here tend to fall into one of two habits.
The first is the M1 commuter. High kilometres, mostly at steady speed, engine always fully warm. Those cars report well on oil condition and badly on tyres and suspension, because motorway kilometres accumulate wear on the parts that touch the road.
The second is the shopping centre car. Low kilometres, all of them stop-start, never a sustained run. Those cars report the opposite. Tyres with plenty of tread and oil that is far more degraded than the odometer suggests, plus brake rotors that surface rust between uses.
Both are normal. They just need different things at different times, and a report that lists condition is how you tell which one you have got.
What is in the service
A full safety check on the hoist covering brakes, tyres, steering, suspension, lights, belts, hoses and leaks. Fresh engine oil and a new filter in the correct grade for your engine. A fuel system clean. Coolant, brake fluid, power steering and washer fluid checked and topped up. Then the report.
From $330 for the full job, from $149 for oil and filter only. The variation comes down to oil capacity, oil grade and filter type. If the inspection turns something up, you get a call with the problem, the fix and the price, and nothing starts until you agree.

Common questions
FAQ — Car Service in Mount Gravatt
What is in the written report?
Condition of brakes, tyres, steering, suspension, belts, hoses, fluids and the battery, with measurements where measurements apply, sorted into what needs doing now, soon and later.
Can I take the report to another workshop?
Yes, and we would rather you could. Numbers are checkable, which is the point of reporting in them.
Do I get told before extra work is done?
Always. You get a call with the problem, the fix and the price, and the job waits for your approval.
My car does big kilometres on the M1. What should I watch?
Motorway kilometres are gentle on oil and hard on tyres and suspension. Those are the items to watch on your report.
My car mostly does short trips to Garden City. Is that easier on it?
Not on the oil. Short trips never fully warm the engine, so oil degrades faster than the odometer suggests.
How long does a service take?
A few hours for most cars. Tell us when you book if you need it back at a set time.
What does it cost?
From $330 for a full service and from $149 for oil and filter. Exact figure at booking.
Do you have a Mount Gravatt workshop?
No. Our only address is 2 Baldock St, Moorooka.
