Smash Repairs in Tarragindi
The question almost everyone asks first is how long it will take. The honest answer is that it depends on the damage and on parts, and those two things cannot be known until the car has been properly assessed. We give you a realistic timeframe after that assessment, straight answers when something changes, and both panel and mechanical repairs in the one workshop. Ring 0402 723 464.
Why timeframes vary and what actually controls them
A bumper scuff that needs paint and no structural work can be done in two or three days. A car with significant front-end damage, deformed structural rails and parts on back order can take three to four weeks or longer.
The variables are the damage itself, the parts required, whether any of those parts are on back order, and whether the insurer's assessor queries the quote and requires a supplementary authority before work can continue. The first is known after the assessment. The others unfold as the repair progresses.
What we can tell you is where the job is at any given point and what is waiting on what. That is more useful than a date that shifts and leaves you wondering.
Parts — the variable nobody talks about upfront
Parts availability has become more variable in the last few years. Specific models, European makes and some fleet vehicles can have panels or components that are simply not in the country, and a back order is a back order regardless of how urgent the job is.
We order parts as soon as authority is received, not before. That is because the insurer's authority is what locks in the agreed scope of work. Ordering on assumption and then having to return parts adds confusion and cost to the job.
Where a part is on back order, we update you and tell you when we have an estimated arrival date. Where it is genuinely unknown, we say that rather than inventing a figure.
What happens while the car is in the workshop
Once authority is through and parts are on hand, the repair runs through strip and assess, structural work if required, panel repair or replacement, prep, paint, clear and final assembly. A road test is the last step, checking alignment, steering feel and anything that shows under load.
Mechanical repairs — steering, suspension, alignment and cooling — happen in the same building rather than being sent out. That matters after a front-end hit, where the mechanical damage is usually found at the strip stage and added to the quote as a supplementary item.
Getting the car in from Tarragindi
Tarragindi backs onto Moorooka and is one of the closer suburbs to our Baldock St workshop. If the car is driveable, the trip is short. If it is not, ring before it is moved or towed, because the workshop it goes to first shapes the claim from there.
We are open Monday to Friday 8am to 5pm and Saturday 8am to 3pm, with an after-hours key drop for early or late arrivals. Everything else we do for Tarragindi is on the Tarragindi service area page, and the full claim process is on the insurance claims page.
Common questions
FAQ — Smash repairs in Tarragindi
How long will the repair take?
We give you a timeframe after the assessment, not before it. Some jobs take days, others take weeks. Parts availability is usually the variable we cannot control.
Why are parts taking so long?
Back orders on specific makes and models are common and unpredictable. We order as soon as authority comes through and tell you if something is delayed.
Can you rush the repair?
The work itself can often be compressed. The parts supply and the insurer's authority timeline are outside our control, and we will not pretend otherwise.
Do I get a hire car?
That depends on your policy. Ask your insurer at the time of lodging, not after. Some policies include it automatically, some require you to request it, and some do not cover it.
My car just got kerbed. Is it worth claiming?
A wheel and tyre can be expensive to replace, and there may be strut or hub damage behind it. Get a quote first, then decide based on the cost versus your excess and premium.
Can I drop the car on Saturday?
Yes. We are open Saturday 8am to 3pm, and the after-hours key drop covers any time after that.
The date slipped from what you told me. Why?
Parts back orders and supplementary claim authorisations are the most common reasons. We update you when the timeline changes rather than leaving you to find out at collection.
My insurer is handling everything and I just received a text. Do I need to call you?
If the insurer is directing the repair and you have a claim number, give us a call so we have your details and can confirm everything is moving.
