Smash Repairs in Sunnybank
When a car cannot be driven after an accident, the first hour matters more than people realise. Where it goes, and how the towing is arranged, shapes how the claim runs from that point. Sunnybank is close to our Moorooka workshop off Mains Road, and we handle the towing and the full repair from that first call. Ring 0402 723 464.
What to do with a car that cannot be driven
The hour after an accident involves a lot of decisions made under stress, and not all of them are obvious. The most important one for the repair is where the car goes before you have lodged the claim.
If the car cannot be driven, do not let it be towed to wherever happens to be closest before you have a plan. Towing from a holding yard to a workshop is one tow. Moving it after the claim is lodged is a second one, and it complicates who pays.
Ring the insurer, get a claim number, then ring us. That sequence keeps the towing within the claim and gets the car where it needs to be without an extra step.
At the scene
Photograph the damage, the position of both vehicles, and any contributing road features. If anyone is injured, call 000 before you call anyone else. If the other driver fails to stop or the damage is to property other than vehicles, you are required to report it to police.
Get the other driver's details — name, licence, registration, insurer — before they leave the scene. If they are co-operative, take a photo of the licence.
Getting a car from a holding yard
Police impounds, emergency towing services and some roadside assistance organisations move damaged cars to holding yards. The car sits there accumulating daily storage fees while the claim is being lodged and the insurer arranges the next steps.
The sooner the insurer has a claim number and authorises the tow to the repairer, the sooner storage stops accumulating. Give us the yard name and location and the claim number, and we talk to the insurer about arranging the tow to Baldock St.
Before the car leaves the yard, take another set of photos. If there is any damage that was not on the vehicle when it was towed in, document it at the yard rather than discovering it later.
Panel and paint work in Sunnybank
Sunnybank sits around Mains Road and Kessels Road and is close to the Moorooka workshop by most routes. Cars from this suburb come in for the full range of panel work: bumper impacts, side swipes, rear-end damage and car park hits.
Mechanical damage — steering, suspension, alignment, cooling — is handled in the same building. We work on all makes and models including European, diesel, hybrid, electric, fleet and commercial vehicles. The rest of what we do for the suburb is on the Sunnybank service area page.
Common questions
FAQ — Smash repairs in Sunnybank
My car is undriveable after an accident. What are the first steps?
Photograph everything at the scene, report to police if required, then lodge with your insurer and get a claim number before the car moves. Ring us with the claim number and we talk you through what happens next.
Does my insurer arrange towing, or do I?
Most comprehensive policies include towing cover. Ask your insurer when you lodge, not after. Tell them where the car should go before it gets moved.
My car is at a holding yard. Can you take it from there?
Yes. Give us the yard details and the claim number and we liaise with the insurer to arrange the tow to Baldock St once authority comes through.
Do I need to be there when the tow arrives?
Not usually. The yard handles access. Ring the yard and tell them we are the authorised repairer.
How far is Sunnybank from your workshop?
Mains Road to Moorooka is a short drive. 2 Baldock St is our only address.
Can the car stay at your workshop overnight before the assessment?
Yes. Drop it or have it towed in and we assess in the morning. The after-hours key drop covers arrivals outside opening hours.
What happens if the car is written off?
The insurer decides that, not the repairer. We provide the assessment; the insurer determines total loss based on repair cost versus market value. We let you know if the assessment suggests it is heading that way.
Do you handle fleet and commercial vehicle repairs?
Yes. Fleet, commercial, signwritten vehicles and work vans are all normal work here.
